Just Chillin'

The last few weeks have been pretty calm with a few birthday parties and just relaxing around the house.

Here are my boys just chillin out...

Love Matt's hair after his nap!

Catch-up

It's been a busy last few weeks as I have gone back to work, so here's a catch-up posting.

Alex and Thomas

Couple of weeks ago, I took Alex to Rusk, Texas to ride on the Texas State Railroad as part of their Day out with Thomas the Train exhibit. It was about a 2 hour drive to Rusk and the weather was perfect...70°F and sunny.

Arriving in Rusk.....Waiting for the train

Yeah...we're on the train

Alex with Thomas...and playing with trains

Twins and Swine Flu

Although we tried to prevent the twins from catching the flu from Alex, unfortunately they got it about 2 weeks after Alex. They still have the sniffles and cough, but again we have been very fortunate. The worst part was the horrible diaper rash that Zach got from the awful diarrhea that came with the flu.

Angela's Wedding
Last weekend we (I, Jeff and Alex) went to Houston to attend my college best friend's wedding. It was another gorgeous weekend and a beautiful day!

Alex and Dad before the ceremony (aren't they cute in their matching outfits?)

Angela...what a beautiful bride! We were thrilled to be part of her wonderful day!

Pumpkins Everywhere

Sunday we took the boys to our local autumn/pumpkin display for some pictures. Alex enjoyed hoping from pumpkin to pumpkin, while the twins were..."what in the world?"

Here are our little pumpkins...

Then we went to a local playground and enjoyed the slightly cooler weather.

Swine Flu

Unfortunately we could not avoid it...Alex got swine flu a week and a half ago. Fortunately, Alex is doing well and the twins are in the clear. Alex stayed home from pres-school all of last week and we tried to keep him isolated from the twins as much as possible; not an easy task with a very active 3 year old. The twins were given Tamiflu as a preventative step, so I think that helped too to keep them well.

Jeff and I were also lucky that we didn't catch the flu from Alex. All in all, the flu was very mild for Alex, so we are definitely very thankful for that.

Nothing Exciting

Not much excitement (at least not any more than usual) is going on here, so here are a few recent pictures.

Sick Twins!

Friday night before Labor Day, Zach woke up at 11pm with an alarming sound to any parent...a barking cough (one we know too well unfortunately as Alex was hospitalized with the same type of cough 2 years ago when he developed croup and pneumonia). Zach was struggling to breathe and was turning almost gray. Fortunately we had some albuterol nebulizer medication left over from before and gave Zach a much needed breathing treatment. Without the albuterol we for sure would have had to call 911. Within minutes he seemed much better, but I took him to the ER just to make sure. They prescribed antibiotics for the bronchitis and beginning stages of pneumonia.

Within a couple of days he was back to normal. He even managed to get a haircut.

Before

After

When one twin is sick, the other one is sure to follow (at least in our house). On last Sunday Matt started getting a slight cough and a runny nose...usually not a big deal. However, by Tuesday he unfortunately was wheezing heavily and having horrible coughing spasms. He got put on steroids (and yes, they really make him freakishly strong and very hyper) and albuterol breathing treatments.

He's felt and acted pretty sick all week, but today seemed to be getting back to his old self. Hopefully, he will be back to normal soon.

...and let's pray that Alex doesn't get whatever the twins had. He always seems to get put on steroids, which let me tell you makes the Terrible twos look like a beatiful picnic.
